The technology behind EL
EL (electrical luminescent) sheets are made of an extremely thin, extremely versatile light emitting material, which have the advantage over other standard light sources of being able to be animated. Between two conductive layers there is a layer of electroluminescent pigment. In response to an electrical current, this pigment emits light. Power is supplied by an inverter and, depending on size and amount of animated areas, can be operated by battery, 12V or AC current. Virtually all areas of the sheet can be lighted and controlled via the processor, thus animating the printed image.

What advantage does EL have in relation to conventional lighting?
