P&M’s social dedication

Ever since P&M was founded we are dedicated to actively support social projects. Starting with urgently needed equipment for kinder gardens and schools to financial donations for Unicef or catastrophe victims.

In 2000 we started a permanent commitment with adopting two godchildren of the Aid Organisation Plan International. Our long-term partners and customers already know them as they are seeing pictures of Jose Pallo Jato and Mileidy Feliz every year on our annual Christmas Cards.

Jose was 6 years old, when he was introduced to us. He lived with his parents and eight siblings in Apagua, Ecuador. Apagua is a small community in the Cotopaxi Highlands, four hour drive from the next larger city Quito.

Suffering from earthquakes and other natural disasters, the area is very poor and the life of the people is very hard. Water and power supply is only available in few areas and houses. With the support of Plan International a small infrastructure has been built so that Jose and his siblings have the chance to go to school and also health care is available in the closer area.

In the meantime Jose is 14 years old. One brother got married and moved away, two others moved to the city in order to find jobs.  Jose is not an enthusiastic student, but still tries his best to get a basic knowledge and learn as much as possible.

At the same time we have been introduced to Maria Elisa Chisag. She was three years old and lived with her mother, four brothers and sisters in Tigre Urco, Ecuador.  With the support of Plan International the community managed to develop so far that further help was not needed any more.

This gave us the chance to meet Mileidy Feliz from El Guayullo, Dominican Republik in 2003. She is now 9 years old and lives with her aunt Romula and her family. She loves playing with dolls and enjoys going to school.

The family has a private latrine, but is not connected to the public water and power system. Nevertheless during the rain season there is enough water to secure their living. Health care is available as well as the basic infrastructure of the local community.

Besides our monthly contribution to Plan International, we send Mileidy and Jose twice a year small presents, to treat them personally and give them some joy for their lives. These have been various toys, but also crayons, booklets and rucksacks.
Regular reports from Plan Interantional give us an insight in the development of our adopted children, but also the family and the according community.
